Mary M. Bailey Obituary

Mary M. Bailey, maiden name Miller, of Kittanning, PA died on April 1, 2023 at Kittanning Care Center of complications of stroke last year and age-related health issues. She was born on December 20, 1939 in Delmont, Westmoreland County, PA to the late Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Miller.

She attended Greensburg Salem High School. She loved to read despite not finishing high school. She married her husband Bernard A. Bailey in March 1961. She was a dedicated housewife and mother. She painted ceramics with her husband before his passing. She worked at Kittanning Foodland until its closing. She loved watching and reading about birds as well as feeding them in the bird feeders which she placed out for them. She would spend time with her family gardening, canning and baking. She had fond memories of her sister-in-law and mother-in-law going to the mountains in South Central Pennsylvania as well as with her children. She always had dogs which she loved and cared for.

Some very fond memories of my mother were helping bake cookies and going to the mountains. Many times, cousins and friends would come in the summer to enjoy the country air of where we lived. Picking berries in the spring and fall. A memory of my sister is going crabbing in Maryland at Janes Island State Park.

Mary was a very strong individual. She suffered through many surgeries in her life. Several knee operations on her left leg as well as kidney, stomach and other surgeries, the worse being a double aneurism in 2000. She kept a positive attitude through all these afflictions. She will be sadly missed by her children, Bernard A. Bailey, Jr of Kittanning, Donald A Bailey of Commerce, Georgia, Mary Beth Kraft of Southhaven, MS and Markella Liberto of Kittanning. She is preceded in death by her father Darwin Miller, her sisters, Jean Goodell, Patricia Holt, and brother Richard Miller and husband Bernard. She is survived by Brother Darwin Miller, JR, Sisters Evelyn Rogina and Anna Marie Lauffer, as well as above named children.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. When she was younger, she taught people to can food. She passed the cooking and baking skills to her children. She cared for others even when she did not have much. She would bake cookies at Christmas time for various people who were elderly or shut in. She would help others such as her children and their friends in times of need.

She will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2023 in the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 South McKean Street, Kittanning, PA 16201 from 2:00-4:00pm & 6:00-8:00pm. Additional viewing will be held on Friday in the funeral home from 11:00am until time of funeral services at 12:00pm with Bishop Brandon Bodily officiating. Burial will follow in Lawn Haven Burial Estates.
