He was predeceased by: his parents, Ludolph W. Smith and Fay C. Smith (Hill); his wife Daisy I. Smith (Fitzgerald); his siblings, William Smith, Dorothy I. Calhoun and Mary Louise Lasher; and his parents-in-law, Ellis and Lula Fitzgerald.
He is survived by: his children, Howard Brian Smith (Erika), Janet I. Boarts (Alan), Joan F. Smith and Joy L. Patterson (Kent); and his grandchildren, Joel Kaufman (Bobbi), Adam Patterson, Charles Patterson, Kelsey Boarts, Joe Kunc, Tyson Boarts (Amanda), Taylor Cook (Devin), Samantha Rupp, Dustin Shuey, Nathaniel Smith and Lauren Smith. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.
