He was predeceased by: his wife Freida Louise Harley Garis; his parents, Earl Garis and Virginia Hewitt Garis; his son Merle L Garis; and his siblings, Russel, Robert, Willard, Mark and Verna Garis.
He is survived by: his sons, Daryl (Marilyn Garis) of Jacksonville, FL, R. Gene (Susan Garis) of Kirkwood and Dennis Lynn (Beth Garis) of Indian Trail, NC; and his brother Richard C. (Dorothy Garis) of Bedminster, PA.. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren.
