She was predeceased by: her husband William; her parents, Miguel and Flora; and her siblings, Fabio, Ivan and Fanny.

She is survived by: her children, Michael Casallas and Dr. Flora Casallas; and her brother Ciro Lozada. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Maria chose to work in nursing homes caring for patients with Alzheimer's.
