He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Joseph Phillips and Bessie Phillips; his wife Kathryn; his children, Cassandra Doyle (Patrick) and David Jr. (Shannon); his grandchildren, Caylynne Mankafas (Mike), Patrick and Jack Doyle; his great grandchildren, Mia and Julian Mankafas; and his siblings, Alan (Helen), Fred Phillips (Rae) and Virginia Southall (AB). He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Vietnam Veterans of America.
