He was predeceased by: his parents, Darryl E. Atwell and Genevieve M. Atwell-Buchanan (Hoffman); his son Darryl Atwell; his grandson Bryant L. Atwell Jr.; his former wife Jessie L. Biddle (Ealy); and his siblings, Richard Atwell and Shirley Royle.
He is survived by: his children, Neil I. Atwell Jr. (Heather), Bryant L. Atwell (Kim), Edward J. Atwell (Robin), Brenda L. Shick (Marc), Faith A. Mong (Barry) and Angel M. Magee (Chad); and his friend Elizabeth Jean "Jeanie" Cornelius. He is also survived by 2 sisters and 1 brother.
