She was predeceased by: her father John Evan; her husband Edgar D. James; her grandchildren, Tiera Linn Asel, Edgar D. James III and Adam Paul DeSio; her brothers, John and Robert Evan; and her sister-in-law Joyce Evan.

She is survived by: her family Along; her children, Edgar D. James, Jr. (Tamie), Becky Lucia (Bryant), Kathy DeSio (Jerry) and Laurie Farnsworth (Rick Young, Jr.); her sister Doris Hungiville; her sister-in-law Diane Evan; her grandchildren, Tonia Kaufman (Dean), Travis Asel (Allison), Trisha Wright (Brian), Tessa Boschert (Tom), Jessica James-McGuire (Matt), Amanda DeSio-Whitehouse (Chris), Allie Fadenholz (Alex), Joe Farnsworth (Cher) and Kasey Dales (Mike); her stepgranddaughter Jocelyn Lucia; her great grandchild Raisa; and her stepgreat-grandchildren, Ryton, Camille, Nic and Rose.

After her retirement, Shirley created over 100 beautifully knitted afghans for family, friends and charity fundraisers.
