He was predeceased by: his parents, Karl Eckel and Mary Eckel (Scanlan). He is survived by: his wife Lee Ann Eckel (Boroski); his children, Gregory Eckel (Kitty), Amy Carlson (Peter) and Louise Eckel (James Tassone); his grandchildren, Simon Eckel, Lucy Eckel and Bradley Carlson; and his sister Barbara Goettler. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their children.

Contributions may be made in Bill's memory to Windber Hospice or Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
