He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul C. Schmidt and Kathryn D. Schmidt (Adams); and his significant other Vickie Schmidt (Davis). He is survived by: his daughter Amy Schmidt of Johnstown; his grandsons, Matthew Schmidt (Brittany Baume) of Pittsburgh, Jackson and Zachary Schmidt; and his brother Charles W. Schmidt (Christine Chuba). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
