Pauline Solomon Obituary

Pauline Frenchko Solomon, 98, of Jermyn, died Wednesday morning at Carbondale Nursing Home. She was the widow of Albert Joseph Solomon, who died in August 1967. The couple was married 28 years. Born June 20, 1919 in Jermyn, daughter of the late Thomas and Fannie Surkey Frenchko, Pauline attended Archbald School before working at area garment industries as a sewing operator.

She was a member of the ILGWU Ladies Garment Union and was past union representative. Pauline was a member of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish, Jermyn. A caregiver for many years, she was also an avid baker and seamstress who was proud of being able to use the proceeds for her sewing projects. She traveled the contiguous 48 states in addition to traveling to Europe to visit her parents homeland.

She prided herself on being a driver for her friends until she was 90 years of age. The family is most grateful to Dr. Giovanni Ramos and AseraCare Hospice, and the Carbondale Nursing Home for excellent care. In addition, she was cared for by Sr. Martha, I.H.M. and Theresa Durkin, volunteers with AseraCare Hospice. She is survived by a son, Albert Solomon, Ph.D. and wife, Ruthane, Clarks Summit; brother, Peter Frenchko and his wife, Delores, Dickson City; granddaughter, Maryruth, Falls Church, Va.; grandson, Thomas C. Solomon and wife, Hae, McLean, Va.; great-granddaughters, Malia and Keely; sister-in-law, Delores Frenko, Jermyn; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by seven brothers, John, Nicholas, Samuel, Theodore and Thomas Frenchko and infants Michael and Adam Frenchko; and three sisters, Mary Bowen, Justine Matechak and infant Nancy. The funeral will be Monday from Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 624 Madison Ave., Jermyn, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. to be celebrated by Monsignor William J. Feldcamp.

Interment, Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Harrison Funeral Home, 374 N. Main St., Archbald. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish, 624 Madison Ave., Jermyn, PA 18433.
