He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Felipe Russo and Teresa Pagano; his former wife Dr. Irma H. Alvarez; his wife Magda Johanna; his daughter Patricia A. Russo; his son-in-law Ronald William Waite, Jr.; his sister Maria; his stepson Peter Maurissen (Brigitte Sterckx); his stepgrandchildren, Mary, Ruben and Lukas; and his stepson Erik Maurissen (Chantal Collen).
For the last 45 years, he has been an active member of the NIH peer review system and has served as a special reviewer for the American Cancer Society, the National Science Foundation, and the Department of Defense and Veteran Affairs.
