He was predeceased by: his parents, Mae Reehling (Auchey) and Raymond A. Spangler; and his nephew Troy M. Swartzbaugh. He is survived by: his wife Geraldine Spangler (Bosserman); his daughters, Debra S. Brokenshire (Fred) and Diane S. Stahl (Steve); his grandchildren, Dr. Caitlin M. Brokenshire and Cole W. Brokenshire; his stepgranddaughter Stacy Spurrier (Mike); and his brother Ashley M. Swartzbaugh (Mary). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
