He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Yates and Hazel Painter Yates. He is survived by: his former wife Joan Yates; his daughter Lisa Marie Yates; his sisters, Oletha "Bunny" Salopek (John) and Connie Clooney; and his grandson Christopher Joseph Yates. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
