He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Leo and Pauline Ailes (Milliken). He is survived by: his wife Carol Jean Ailes (Wentzel); his children, Lisa A. Ball (Dane) of Greensburg, Beth A. Hopkins (Richard) of Big Bend, WV, Julie A. Miller (Mark) of Mt. Zion, WV, Shelly Fleeger (Bob) of Worthington and Alan Scratcher (Jen) of Myrtle Beach, SC; his grandchildren, Zachary Hopkins (Erin), Sarah Pellicane (Vince), Brittney Stevens, Mallory Piegols (Scott), Emily Reed (Nicholas), Nicholas Stevens (Jamee), Jessica, Caitlyn, Ashley Lincoln, Austin and Cody Scratcher; and his brother Herbert B. Ailes (Barbara) of Kiawah Island, SC. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren.
