He is survived by: his parents, Cecelia Merkel (Leydig) and Darris "Butch" Merkel; and his brothers, Dave Merkel (Adele) of Hyndman, James "Jimmy" Merkel (Wendy) of Hyndman, Todd Merkel (Terri) of Hyndman, Kenny Merkel (Carol Sue) of Ellerslie and George Shore Jr.. He is also survived by four nieces, two nephews, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
