He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Smith and Vesta Smith (Weber). He is survived by: his wife Josephine Early; his children, Douglas R. Smith, Stephen R. Smith, Kristine A. Orwan and Sharon L. Leonti; and his siblings, Max Smith, Janet Bennett, Wallace, Donald and Lemar. He is also survived by three grandchildren, five great grandchildren.
