Laura S. Hamann Obituary
Laura S. Hamann, 83, of Hummelstown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Edgerton, WI, on July 11, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Margaret Brown Sayre.
Those who knew Laura remember her infectious energy and vibrant personality. These traits, combined with a call to service, inspired Laura to dedicate her life to others. After graduating from Milton High School in 1957, she went on to earn a degree in physical therapy from the University of Wisconsin in 1962 where she was also a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.
After moving to Hershey, PA with her family in 1979, she continued her career as a Physical Therapist at Penn State Health, where she retired after 30 years of service to her patients and their families.
Over the years, Laura's passion for Physical Therapy never diminished as she often sought after new opportunities to learn and teach in locations around the globe including New York, Connecticut, and Lithuania.
Laura is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Howard R. Hamann; two children, Lynne E. Hamann of Elizabethtown, and James B. Hamann husband of Linda of Providence, RI; six grandchildren, Margaret, Caroline, Robert, and Andrew Hamann, and Raeann and Lauren Walquist; her great grandson, Parker; and a brother, John Sayre husband of Maureen of Tomahawk, WI.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 6:00 PM at Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 East Derry Road, Hershey, with The Rev. Dr. Stephen McKinney-Whitaker, officiating. Friends are invited to the visitation in the Church on Thursday from 5:00 PM until time of the services. A time of fellowship will follow the service. Burial at Milton East Cemetery in Milton, WI will be held at a later date.
