He was predeceased by: his son Jim; and his brother Harlan. He is survived by: his wife Gerry; his children, Mark and Beth (Dave McIntyre); his grandchildren, Bailey (Meghann) and Clancy; his son David (JoAnna); his grandchildren, Jimmy (Carrie), Sam (Bryan) and Krystal Tressler (Jase); and his brothers, Tom (Eleanor) and Gary (Ruby).

The family wishes to thank the staffs of both Lafayette Manor and WVU Hospice for their care and compassion, and they ask that if you are moved to make a gesture in Walt's name, please contribute to St. Jude Children's Hospital in lieu of sending flowers.
