He was predeceased by: his parents, James A. Hamill and Muriel Smith Hamill; and his sister Josephine Hutcheson. He is survived by: his wife Donna Tyson Hamill; his children, James (Melody Robinson) and Meredith; his grandchildren, Cagney and Prudence; his pet Frankie; and his mother-in-law Dorothy Tyson. He is also survived by brothers/sisters-in-law, nieces & nephews.
