He was predeceased by: his parents, Clay Kirkman and Sarah Jane "Janie" Kirkman; and his siblings, Fentress Scott (John), Eleanor Rudolph (Hal) and Clay Macy Kirkman, Jr. (Eunice).
He is survived by: his wife Phebe McDonald Kirkman; his daughters, Sarah Kirkman Lunsford (Michael) and Anne K. Jones (David); and his grandchildren, Daniel Jones, Ross Jones, Kathryn Lunsford, Erica Gilbert (Madison) and Austin Lunsford.
