He was predeceased by: his parents, John Cassel and Marian Cassel (Koons); and his siblings, John T. Cassel, Harry N. Cassel and Maxine Cassel Payne.
He is survived by: his sisters, Emily Schaffer and Josephine Shatto (Neil Shatto); his sisters-in-law, Elaine Cassel and Wendy Cassel; and his nieces and nephews, Randy Schaffer, Dale Schaffer, Lisa Stokes, Sherry Anderson, Jody Rafferty, Timothy Shatto, Brenda Chambers, Jackie Chronister, David Cassel, Daniel Cassel and Rachael Cassel. He is also survived by 28 great-nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to The Penn State Medical Center Cancer Institute.
