He is survived by: his wife Mary McInerney (Alexander); his children, James McInerney (Jane), William McInerney (Blanca), Joseph McInerney (Ellen), John McInerney (Joanne), Maureen Bose (Alok) and Regina Crawford (Kevin); his siblings, Jo-Anne Sullivan and Michael McInerney; his grandchildren, James Joseph II, Thomas, Daniel (Jessica), Patrick, Liam, Aidan, Finn, John "Jack", Mark McInerney, Deven Bose, Owen Crawford, Rebecca, Alexandra, Margaret, Brooke, Hannah McInerney, Priya, Maya, Neela Bose and Lucy Crawford; and his great grandchild Lucas McInerney. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
