John Haeberlen Obituary
On, Sept 9, 2019, age 80 a resident of Havertown for close to 55 years. Born in McKeesport, PA he
graduated from McKeesport High school in 1955. When younger and still living in McKeesport with his
parents John and Dorothy, he was an usher at the University of Pittsburgh football games. He was a
veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam War where he also began his softball career. After
returning home John was employed by PECO for 36 years, working as a Welder, Foreman and inspector
of the gas crew before retiring in 1994. It was early during this time working that he met his future wife
Anna Harrity of Broomall. In 1964 they were married and began their 55 year life together. After the
wedding he moved from Collingdale to Havertown where he continued his long career of playing
Softball in the Suburban Softball League and eventually became president of the league. He also played
softball and flag football with PECO at McCall field for the Main Line team during his working years.
John was also a member of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church along with his wife and children. He was a
member of the Wynnewood Lanes Bowling League with his wife and their many friends. John spent
years coaching baseball and softball for his kids and many others in the Havertown area. After his
retirement from PECO he ran and organized the PECO Retirement Luncheons. He loved spending time
with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren watching them grow. Also after his
retirement and when not spending time with his family John enjoyed playing golf with his many lifelong
friends. He belonged to McCall Country Club where he played twice a week until about ten months
before his passing.
Anna (Harrity) Haeberlen who he loved until his last breath on earth survives him along with their three
children, John D. (Jacqueline Hill) Haeberlen of Doylestown, Susan M. (Tony) DeSimone of Havertown,
Mark A. (Lauren) Haeberlen of Drexel Hill. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren; Nicole, Jessie,
Jackie (Desimone), Andrew, Matt, Zachary (Haeberlen) and Anna (Haeberlen), Scott (Hanlon), Ally
(Calderone) and two great grandchildren: Maya (Desimone) and Avery (Haeberlen). He is also survived
by his sister, Chloe Gardner and her two children Lisa and Eric.
