He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur H. Burkhard, Jr. and Mary D. Burkhard. He is survived by: his wife Lynne; and his children, John P. Burkhard II (Leslie), Christopher M. Burkhard (Ginger), Michael D. Burkhard, Dawn M. Ludwig and James L. Kooser (Lori). He is also survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
