He was predeceased by: his parents, Ola Strait (Pine) and Charles Strait; his former wife June M. Strait; his son Herman Strait, Jr.; and his siblings, Nellie Smith, Hazel Hess, Dott Nelson, Jane Barnhart, Maudaline Hess, David and Clarence Strait.
He is survived by: his wife Judy A. Strait (Riddle); his children, Linda Barling of Needmore, PA, Pamela Karsteter of Hanover, PA, Debby Smith of Warfordsburg, PA, Jake Strait of Mercersburg, PA, Sammy Strait of Warfordsburg, PA and Terry Riddle of Hanover, PA; and his sister Ada Lowe of Duncansville, PA. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, services and interment at the Siloam United Methodist Cemetery in Harrisonville, PA will be private.
