He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Joseph and Viola Virginia Dull Bankard; his brothers, Harold and Gerald Bankard; and his sister-in-law Nancy Forney.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Jo Bankard; his daughters, Michelle Bankard Marmo (Kelly Schenke) of Lancaster, Nikki Matteson (Scott) of New Windsor, MD and Megan Sullivan (Colin) of Columbia, MD; his grandchildren, Erik, Anna Matteson, Zach, Henry Probolus, Alex and Nathan Sullivan; his stepgrandson Noah Schenke; his siblings, Phyllis Bankard, Earlene Carver (Larry), Robert Bankard (Barbara) and Kevin Bankard (Janise); his adoptive daughter Brenda Hughes; and his sister-in-law Joyce Bankard. He is also survived by his father and brothers.
