James P. Yeich Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James P. Yeich (Hallstead, Pennsylvania), who passed away on August 5, 2023, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by : his parents, Vernon Yeich and Luella Damier Yeich; and his siblings, Vernon (Inge Yeich) and Barbara. He is survived by : his brother John Yeich.

In line with Jim's desire to educate and encourage others, he wanted to offer his body as an anatomical donation to a University Hospital for medical students.

“Jim was a superb geography teacher and had a profound positive impact on my life. I went on a bicycling trip to Ireland with a small group that he arranged when I was in high school. I was thrilled to be in his Ireland travel presentation. His class and that trip inspired me to earn my BA, MS, and PhD in Geography. I have been a geography professor for 18 years now, and have brought dozens of student to other countries. Jim taught me in Ireland 40 years ago to always explore when traveling, even if you're tired, to fully experience new places. To this day I warn my students and two daughters "if you take a nap you are missing out" when traveling. I just spent 5 weeks in Costa Rica and was thinking of Jim as I reminisced about my travels.”
