He was predeceased by: his parents, John N. Alter and Florence A. Alter (Brocklehurst); his son Cary L. Alter; and his siblings, Robert J. Alter, Jr., Eleanor Vogt and Jenny Lou Kashner.
He is survived by: his wife Donna Lee; his daughter-in-law Sherry Alter; and his brothers-in-law, Robert "Bob" Vogt and Norman Kashner. He is also survived by 2 granddaughters and two great grandsons along with several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
