He is survived by: his in-laws, Ava Powell (Steve) of Aiken, SC, Julie Hodge and Deb Brain (Ken); and his nieces and nephews, Lauren Powell, Elizabeth Covert, Travis Powell and Zack Covert.

“Dear Family, I am getting emails asking me to share a little about who John was. He came to America when he was 6. His adopted father died the next year + he grew up very poor. He was a self made man. Friend to the Second City crew he could have been a stand up comic, or another Belushi. He had a heart of gold + often bought Xmas presents + gave them a month early + went out and bought second presents for people. Very smart, LOVED music, loved cats, loved life, A good person, loved by many.”
