He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard L. Burtner and Joanne L. Burtner (Fennell). He is survived by: his close friend Carol Lanehart of Greencastle; his brothers, Larry Burtner, Tim Burtner, Todd Burtner and Chris Burtner; and also, Thomas Lanehart Jr., Tyler Lanehart and Jailyn Lanehart. He is also survived by one niece and several nephews.
