He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard W. Spangler and Irene Spangler (Burger); and his brothers, Guy, Richard, Ray and Paul Spangler.

He is survived by: his wife Ruth Ann Spangler (Hunsberger); his children, Mary Ann Evans (Craig), Howard "Gene" Spangler (Rayetta), Susan Witmer (Joe) and Jerry Spangler (Sherry); and his sister Mary Fahrney.
