Barbara J. Hartwig Obituary
Barbara Jane Hartwig, 89, Gratz, accompanied by her guardian angels passed peacefully to eternal rest on January 2, 2022. Barbara's last moments were shared with her adoring family at home.
Barbara was the third eldest of twelve children born to Edgar and Bessie March, Millersburg. Barbara was proceeded in death by her parents and siblings Cathryn, Doris, Eddie, Louis, Richard, and Rita and survived by Adelaide, Frederick, Harriet, Jan and June. Barbara's Gratz home was a cherished venue for sibling reunions.
Barbara was married to Rodney Charles Hartwig, a career Air Force and Vietnam Veteran, for 48 years until Rodney's passing during 2003. Rodney's and Barbara's service to our country included stations in New York, Florida, Mississippi, and Portugal (Azores). During 1957, Barbara expecting a third child and accompanied by Debra Lynn, age 3, and Sharon Ruth, age 1, joined Rodney across the Atlantic Ocean in the Azores where Terry Sue was born.
Barbara enjoyed a successful administrative secretary career, but her passion was caring for her family; all five generations. Barbara is survived by her three daughters Debra Baker (Clifford), Sharon Hartman (Michael) and Terry Snyder (Robert) of Tampa, Dauphin and Gratz respectively, nine grandchildren (Matt, Melissa, Diane, Jason, Racheal, Michelle, Craig, Christy and Robert) 20 great-grandchildren (Nicholas, Derrick, Alexis, Dalten, Brett, Kendra, Haley, Bradly, Krista, Cameron, Bransen, Ian, Remington, Tyler, Samantha, Carlie, Caleb, Bobby, Colin and McKenzie) and three great-great-grandchildren (Jeremiah, Leo and Karsyn). Barbara was preceded in death by grandson Greg Hartman, one of her guardian angels.
Barbara was a tireless home decorator and chef, and a legendary canner, particularly tomato recipes, jellies, jams, preserves and all things delicious. Barbara's grandchildren will never forget Nanny's kitchen and the goodies that seemed to blossom there. No-one could leave the house without a treat, or jar, to go.
Barbara enjoyed the comradery of the Red Hats and Tops (Millersburg), was a member of Simeon United Lutheran Church of Gratz, the Simeon Willing Workers and a faithful contributor to the Gratz Food Bank. The family invites anyone to make contributions in Barbara's memory to the Gratz Food Bank.
Barbara's family wishes to express its gratitude to the highly responsive and professional staff of Asana Hospice Care.
Private services will be held at a later date.
