He was predeceased by: his parents, James Torpey and Elsie Torpey (Graff); his wife Eleanor Torpey (Covaleski); his former wife Kathleen; and his sister Mary Simon.

He is survived by: his children, Kathleen Maria Butler and James Torpey, Jr. (Andrea). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins.
