He was predeceased by : his parents, Joseph E. Colen, Sr. and Mary Colen Doty; and his wife Mary Leach Colen. He is survived by : his children, Joseph "Dusty" Colen, III (Mazie) of Gwynedd Valley, Jennifer Leach Anderson (Hugh) of Newtown Square and Ambler Selway (Jamie) of Haverford, PA; his siblings, Susan Kreusser (late Robert) of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Jeffrey Colen (Alyse) of Rock Hall, MD.; his grandchildren, Caroline, Samuel Colen, Eleanor, Hugh Jr., Owen Anderson, Jack, Colin and Mackenzie Selway; and his close friend Gretchen Lerch.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial contributions made in Mr. Colen's name to: J Wood Platt Scholarship Trust.
