He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles B. Matter and Dorothy M. Matter (Hummer); his wife Muriel A. Matter (Neidlinger); his siblings, Charles Matter (Butch), Joan Goho and Judith Kaster; and his grandson Tyler Matter.
He is survived by: his children, Michael Matter, Jr. (Keri Klinger) of Millersburg and Stephanie Long (James) of Williamstown. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
