He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Kinnear and Norma Kinnear (Strohmeyer); and his former wife Alice "Jean" Kinnear. He is survived by: his wife Sandra L. Kinnear (McCall); his children, Jill M. Hetherington (Robert), Kim Ozimek (David), Kimberly Bresee (Drew) and John Kinnear (Scarlet); his grandchildren, Ryan, Adam, Julie Hetherington, Jacob, Alex, Nathaniel, Krista, Nick, Ellie and Natalie; his great grandchild Ava Rose Hetherington; and his siblings, Cheryl Bilski (Alex), Jerry Kinnear (Judy) and Mike Kinnear (Linda). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
