She was predeceased by: her parents, Clarence B. Metzler and Margaret L. Metzler (Honsaker); her stepmother Dorothy Metzler; her siblings, Lois Unruh-Nye, Paul H. and L. C. "Red" Metzler; and her half-brother Richard Metzler.
She is survived by: her husband Richard E. "Dick" Shaffer; and her daughters, Cheryl Mickley (Gary) of Gettysburg, Elaine Haydt (Glen) of Weatherford, TX, Colleen Simpson (Dean) of Orrtanna, PA and Joan McManness (Ed) of Lancaster, PA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Adams Rescue Mission or Bethel Mennonite Church.
