He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Oates Davis; and his daughter Ann Miller Davis. He is survived by: his children, George Barrington Davis (Blythe), John Phillips Davis, III, Jeanne (Bitsy), Elizabeth Maxwell Davis of Keswick, Virginia and Mary Oates Davis of New York City; and his grandchildren, Alexandra Maxwell Davis, Andrew Rodgers Davis, Annie Oates Bennett, Julia Jean Bennett, John Phillips Davis, IV and Eliza Mary Davis.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Carnegie Museum of Art, 4400 Forbes Avenue, Pgh.
