He was predeceased by: his husband William; and his siblings, William and Kathleen (Sam). He is survived by: his wife Jean Kilbride Ambs; his children, Robert W. (Mary Ann), James J. (Christine), Patricia J. Spadaro (John), Maureen E. Ambs and Michael J. (Michelle Byrtek); and his sibling Mary Rita Guy.

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations to Four Diamonds, an organization affiliated with Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital that supports the expense families face when fighting childhood cancer.
