He was predeceased by: his parent Curvin M. Markle; his daughters, Charlene Markle, Maryanna and Diane; his son-in-law Dale Coble; and his siblings, Preston Markle and Blanche Markle Frake.

He is survived by: his husband Clare T. Markle (Beranek); his parent Wilhelmina P. Markle (Stansbury); his children, Patricia Keffer (Robert), Sally Coble (Greg), Joseph Markle (Joyce) and Michael Markle (Debbie); his grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, Luke, Paul, Natalie, Brendan, Christian and Deanna; and his great grandchildren, Ashley, Max, Rachel, Benjamin, Mark Thomas, Ella, Madeline, Steven and Emelina.
