George L. Aulenbacher III Obituary
We are deeply saddened to announce that George L. Aulenbacher III, 75, of Fairview, Pennsylvania, passed away on the morning of Friday, August 25th, 2023 at his residence.
Born in Erie, Pennsylvania on March 30th, 1948 to the late George L. Aulenbacher and Dorothy L. (Kennelley) Aulenbacher-Cote, the eldest of seven children. George was a 1966 graduate of General McLane High School and went on to gallantly serve our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he earned a silver star, a bronze star, and two purple hearts. After this, he returned to his hometown neighborhood of Sterrettania, where he then went on to become an accomplished welder and pipefitter, working at the Riley Stoker Corporation for over 30 years, his hard work earned him great respect from all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
Along with his career, George enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in his garden. He was also an avid and talented artist who was capable of turning anything into a work of art. He loved drawing, painting, and carving- his preferred methods of the latter being stone and wood. All of which were shared with his close friends and family throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife and the mother of their three sons, Evalee Aulenbacher (Newberry), son, John “Johnny” J. Aulenbacher; his father George L. Aulenbacher; father-in-law John Newberry; longtime companion Marjorie L. Kosterman; stepfather, Bernard Cote; siblings, Carol L. Aulenbacher, Harry S. Aulenbacher, Debra I. (Aulenbacher) and husband Charles Marr, William “Bill” W. Aulenbacher; and his nephew William “Bill” W. Aulenbacher, Jr.
He is survived by his mother Dorothy L. (Kennelley) Aulenbacher-Cote of Cranesville; son Paul J. Aulenbacher of Erie, PA; estranged son George (Traci) L. Aulenbacher IV of Charleston, WV, grandchildren Emma, Sam, and Tessa – all hailing from Charleston WV, John, Leah, Crystal, Trapper, and Luke – all hailing from Erie, PA; and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Mark (Judasith) K. Aulenbacher of North East, David (Racquetball) L. Aulenbacher of Cambridge Springs, sister-in-law Janet “Jan” Aulenbacher of North East; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews – notably his most beloved nieces, Carol A. Aulenbacher of Belle Vernon, PA and Ava (Jaco) A. Aulenbacher of Poughkeepsie, NY; nephew, Sparticus Draconius of Truth or Consequences, NM; as well many more who are spread throughout the United States, most of whom knew him lovingly as ‘Uncle George’.
George embodied joy in everything he did, be it small projects or anything in between - the easygoing twinkle in his eye could bring a grin to any room.
Per George's request, there will be no services. Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 845 E. 38th Street assisted with arrangements. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
