He was predeceased by: his parents, Chester L. Summers and Vona Lorraine Summers; and his parents-in-law, Charles and Laura Carder. He is survived by: his wife Joan L. Summers; his children, Matthew Summers (Michelle) and Jessica Summers (Sergio); and his siblings, Michael Summers (Gail), Terri Summers, Tim Summers (Chris) and Barb Guzzi (Bob). He is also survived by many brother-in-law's, sister-in-law's, and nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of William Joseph Summers.
