He was loved and cherished by many people including: his grandson Blue; his brother Richard "Dick" Smith; his wife Suzanne H. Smith; his son Peter; his daughter-in-law Christine "Chris" Smith; his daughter Kathleen "Kat" Smith; his grandson Thomas Smith; and his sister-in-law Mimi Smith. He was also cherished by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in David's honor can be made to a favorite charity of one's choosing.
