He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. W. Harold Black and Sara Jane Black of Everett; and his grandfather Alvin Hunt. He is survived by: his sons, Bryan (Janice), Kevin (Kathy) and Steve (Kim); his grandsons, Jeremy, Andrew, Timothy, Steven, Tyler, Christopher, Daniel and Matthew; his wife Barbara Louise Wertz of Bedford; and his uncle Dick Suiters. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Saturday, September 28th 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Grace Lutheran Church (26 W Boscawen St A-201, Winchester, VA 22601). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 28th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
