He was predeceased by: his parents, Manuel Medina and Esther Medina (Dunkle); his siblings, Colleen, Emanuel and Patrick Medina; and his grandmother Ida Dunkle.
He is survived by: his wife Beverly Hawes (Smith); his children, Christopher Hawes, Tammy Lopez (Carlos) and Kyle Hawes (Kelli); his grandchildren, Connor Hawes, Cecilia "Cece" Lopez, Emma and Nathan Hawes; and his siblings, Judy Long of Florida, Judy Velez, Suzanne Ulrich (Tom), Patricia Medina and Ricardo Medina (Pam). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was a fulltime referee for PIAA District 10 from 1987 until 2021, when he retired due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
