John V. Lindner Jr. Obituary
John V. Lindner, Jr., age 84, of Erie, passed away Monday, July 15, 2024 at Saint Mary's Asbury Ridge. He was born in Jamestown, NY on December 30, 1939, the son of John Vincent and Ina Carlson Lindner.
He graduated from Jamestown High and attended Architectural School at the University of Notre Dame. John worked for 10 years for Architectural firms in New York State prior to moving to Erie, PA in 1970. From 1970 until 2005, John worked in the General Construction field in management capacities for firms in Erie, PA, Raleigh, NC and Buffalo, NY. He worked as a construction inspector for the Iroquois School District in 2006 and 2007 prior to his hire by Penn State University. John's latest position was that of Facilities Coordinator for the Commonwealth Services Division of the Office of Physical Plant at Penn State University in University Park, PA.
John served as a Trustee and Head Usher at the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant prior to transferring to Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church in April of 2017. His passion was his position with Penn State University, particularly his work at the Behrend College Campus. John was an avid golfer and a previous member of Lakeview C.C. and Lakeshore C.C., in Erie as well as Bent Winds C.C. in Raleigh, N.C. He was a past member of the University Club and the Erie Maennerchor Club and was a past Director in the East Erie County Kiwanis Club.
John is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joan Lindner Samuelson, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
His survivors include his son, Gregory J. Lindner of St. Petersburg, FL; a daughter, Stephanie A. Lindner of Erie PA; Also surviving are eight grandchildren, a great grandson Revel Jasper Roland, along with several cousins, nephews.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Saint Mary's Asbury Ridge, especially John's favorite nurse Rebecca for their wonderful care.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church, Penn State Behrend College Scholarship Fund or to the charity of one's choice.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service Inc. Downtown, 602 W. 10th Street, Erie.
