He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward R. Nicklas and Emma Wolff Nicklas; and his former wife Gail Nicklas. He is survived by: his wife Mary Ellen Williams Newlin; his son Erick Nicklas (Stacey) of Erie; his siblings, Edward Nicklas (Alice) of Colonial Beach, VA and Sandra Papale (Andrew) of Harborcreek; and his mother-in-law Jane M. Williams of Chesapeake, VA. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; two great grandchildren.
