He was loved and cherished by many people including: his son-in-law Mike; his grandchildren, Oliver, Griffin Umpleby, Jack and June Herman; his niece Jennifer Herman Rabung of Mechanicsville; his nephews, David M. Herman of Mechanicsville, Daniel and Lindsey Griffin of Alabama; his brothers-in-law, John and Tom Griffin; his brother Ronald Herman; his sister-in-law Mary Jane Herman; and his parents, Irving Herman and Leah Hahn Herman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant c/o Sunday Suppers, 250 West 7th Street.
