He was predeceased by: his parents, John H. Matthews and Nora Matthews (Gockley); his former wife Pauline L. Matthews; and his siblings, Irma Snader, Irene Burkholder, Carl, Lester and Earl Matthews.
He is survived by: his children, Debra A. (late Daniel Hornberger) of Akron and James L; his wife Candice Matthews (Jogwer) of Canonsburg; his grandchildren, Rebecca Hornberger Brewster, Curtis (Jessica) and Brian (Lauren); his great grandchildren, Maddox Shade, Judith Brewster and Stella Shade; and his sister Mary Zimmerman of Florida.
