He was predeceased by: his parent John R. Sr.; his son Thomas A. Murtha; and his siblings, William, Donald R., Raymond Murtha and Rita Wilbur.
He is survived by: his parent Anna Biebl Murtha; his former wife Vesta M. Murtha; his children-in-law, James A. Sr. and Bette A. Newbury; his sister-in-law Ronald Murtha; and also, South Beaver Twp, Beth Murtha, West Pittsburg, Barbara A., David Wax and Betty Murtha. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one brother.
